BOFF! THWACK! KAPOW!
Shopify Zooms Variant Limit from 100 to 2,000 Variants!
Sort of.
Holy Smokes Batman!! Shopify is finally removing the 100 variant limit that has restricted merchants for a long while. We are loving this update (see our recent Valentine to Shopify, but WAIT, don’t rush to see it in your Admin Because it isn’t there!
Why can’t I see the 2,000 variant limit in my store?
Shopify is doing a very admirable job launching this update because almost every app/theme/item for Shopify has been setup only to handle 100 variants. Some app vendors are probably fine, but a lot have been specifically set up to manage only 100 variants (because why add support for more when you can’t do anything?!). So, Shopify has released a developer preview to allow apps to update to this new limitation.
When will we actually get access to 2,000 variants?
We don’t know the answer to this, all we know is that Shopify has removed the limitation in the API for developer preview. Our best guess is that this will be a year+ transition before you see anything on your end that looks like the new upper limitations. We hope we are wrong, but we will see.
